Rock Flow Dynamics Celebrates 20 Years of Innovation in Energy Software Technology

25th March, 2025

Today, Rock Flow Dynamics proudly marks our 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of innovation and growth in reservoir modelling, simulation and digital solutions for subsurface modelling.

Founded in 2005, RFD has evolved from a visionary start-up into a trusted technology partner for hundreds of energy companies worldwide. Our flagship product, tNavigator, has become one of the most advanced integrated reservoir modelling and simulation platforms in the industry, known for its speedy performance, intuitive interface, and cross-domain integration.

Over the past 20 years, RFD has grown its global footprint, with offices and partners across more than 35 countries. Our commitment to R&D and user collaboration has driven continuous enhancements to our software portfolio, enabling our clients to making faster, smarter, and more efficient decisions across the full asset lifecycle.

Vasilii Shelkov, CEO of RFD said:

“Over the past two decades, we’ve transformed from a modest team of five dreamers into a powerhouse of 500 innovators from around the globe. Our mission? To revolutionise integrated reservoir modelling by replacing outdated, sluggish, and overpriced tools with cutting-edge solutions. Our flagship product, tNavigator, stands as a testament to this vision—an advanced reservoir modelling and simulation platform that seamlessly integrates geoscience, reservoir, and production engineering disciplines. But we’re just getting started. If you’re still pushing the same old “industry standard” toys without investing in R&D like we do, expect to hear from us soon. Here’s to the relentless, hardworking, and hardcore tNavigators—happy anniversary!”

As part of the anniversary celebrations, we will host a series of global user events, webinars, and product showcases throughout the year, highlighting the latest innovations in tNavigator and our vision for the future of digital subsurface technology.

With a strong foundation and a forward-looking approach, RFD is poised to lead the next wave of technological transformation in the energy sector.

Strengthening Ties and Advancing Engineering Education with Software License Donation

This August, we had the honour of commemorating a significant partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam’s College of Engineering. This event was graced by:

– *Yang Berbahagia Professor Datuk Dr. Shahrin Bin Sahib, FASc*, Vice Chancellor of UiTM
– *Yang Berusaha Profesor TPr. Dr. Jamalunlaili Abdullah*, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Industrial, Community and Alumni Network (ICAN), UiTM
– *Yang Berusaha Profesor Ir. Ts. Dr. Hajah Hamidah Mohd Saman*, Assistant Vice Chancellor of the College of Engineering, UiTM

The occasion highlighted our donation of approximately 100 software licenses, aimed at bolstering the academic and research capabilities of UiTM’s engineering students and faculty. We believe this contribution will significantly enhance their ability to drive innovation and excel in their field.

At Rock Flow Dynamics, we are proud to support UiTM, an institution renowned for its commitment to engineering excellence since its establishment in 1956. We are excited about the impact this partnership will have on the next generation of engineers and researchers.

Thank you to UiTM for their warm reception and to all the distinguished guests for celebrating this milestone with us. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and advancing engineering education together.

Field Trip

The tNavigator team in Aberdeen recently took a much-needed break from their usual routine, venturing to the Cowie formation in Stonehaven. This field trip was an opportunity for everyone, regardless of job title, to deepen their understanding of geology and engage in enriching group discussions.

From the moment we arrived, the Cowie formation captivated us with its stunning geological features. The area is renowned for its diverse rock formations, offering a unique opportunity to explore sedimentary layers and intriguing igneous intrusions, with each rock telling a story of it’s own.

Our team shared their insights, and all left with a richer appreciation of the complexities of geology.
