Numerical Simulation of Reservoir Salt Dissolution Using Fully Implicit Scheme Within Isothermal Compositional Model of Hydrocarbon Filtration

Abstract The article addresses the problem of numerical simulation of the salty water properties after the dissolution of hard reservoir salt following water flooding. A new method is being proposed for the simulation of reservoir salt dissolution within the isothermal models of black oil and compositional model of hydrocarbon filtration, based on fully implicit numerical …

Fully Coupled Geomechanics Approach to Determine Critical Wellbore Intervals

Abstract A method to locate critical wellbore intervals during oilfield development is proposed in this article. A variant of fully coupled geomechanics approach is used. Geomechanical 3D modeling is performed on the same mesh that is used for reservoir simulation. The proposed algorithm uses Mohr-Coulomb criterion to locate critical wellbore intervals.

Hybrid Approach to Reservoir Modeling Based on Modern CPU and GPU Computational Platforms

Abstract For modern day reservoir simulators, it is essential to provide realistic physical description of reservoirs, fluids and hydrocarbon extraction technology and guarantee excellent performance and parallel scalability. In the past, the advances in simulation performance were largely limited by memory throughput of CPU based computer systems. Recently, new generation of graphical processing units (GPU) …

On Optimal Selection of Objective Grouping for Multi-Objective History Matching

Summary Multiobjective history matching has gained popularity in the last decade. It provides an ensemble of diverse set and good matched models that should lead to improved forecasting. Moreover, in some cases, multiobjective history matching provides faster and more-robust convergence than the single-objective approach. In multiobjective, objective components (usually groups of them) guide the algorithm …

Waterflood Planning and Piloting in a Tight Sandstone with Stimulated Wells: Buena Vista Nose Case Study

Abstract The paper covers green field development in a low-permeability reservoir, where water injection is under consideration. To maximize economic value, accurate well placement and key data gathering during delineation and appraisal will allow for early cash flow generation and preservation of ultimate waterflood reserves by operating above the bubble point pressure. Conversely, implementation of …
