RFD donates software to Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat

MUSCAT, January 14, 2016 – RFD has donated tNavigator reservoir simulation software to the College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The licenses are worth over US$ 9,8 million and will enrich the learning experience of SQU’s MSc Petroleum Engineering students.

The tNavigator software is Rock Flow Dynamics’ flagship product with capabilities far exceeding any industry standard dynamic simulation tool through rapid speed, unlimited parallel scalability and a synchronized graphical user interface. Through collaboration with Rock Flow Dynamics, SQU will provide its students with the new state of the art dynamic reservoir simulation technology for their classroom learning.

First tNavigator Course for MSc Students

RFD held first tNavigator learning course for SQU MSc Students 2016. The course was organized with support of Professor Rashid Al-Maamari, Head of Department, and Dr. Majid Al-Wadhahi. The course lectors were Kirill Bogachev, RFD Chief Technology Officer, and Dmitrii Ivanov, Director of Oman Support Office.

The course included the basic skills for the field development planning by using tNavigator. The course materials were provided by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), leading national petroleum company. At the end of the course, the students are able to create simple production forecasts by selecting the optimal locations for drilling of the new wells.

About the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Department

The Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Department (PCED) in the College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University was established in 1986. The Department aims at providing a comprehensive state-of-the-art education for its students and thus equipping those with essential skills needed to prepare them for the challenging highly competitive job market in the Petroleum/Chemical sectors.
