Thermal modeling used for a heat coproduction project (Aquitaine Basin)

21 July 2020 08:00 - 08:30 UTC

The joint webinar from Rock Flow Dynamics and Vermilion Energy (France)

Vermilion Energy (France)

One of the numerous sustainable projects of Vermilion in France consists in using the thermal properties of the water associated with oil production in a Field of the Aquitaine Basin to provide heat to local communities. This water, being found at 101°C at the reservoir level, will provide heat at the surface level (heat exchanger) before being re-injected into the reservoir. To fully evaluate the project, the question to answer is if and how the colder re-injected water is going to impact the produced water temperature. A thermal model of the reservoir has been used to assess the evolution of the “cold bubble” in the reservoir from injectors to producers. Sensitivities were run to ensure that the output reservoir temperature would remain within the projects
