Workshop on Uncertainty Quantification in Malaysia

November 08, 2016

We would like to thank all those individuals who attended the technical workshop “Uncertainty Quantification and Risk Analysis in Field Development Planning” that was organized by PETRONAS and RFD in Kuala Lumpur on November, 9th.

More than 120 professionals from different regions of the world attended the event and exchanged their ideas in the workshop discussions. There were a number of presentations covering the modern ideas, algorithms, workflows and recent case studies. During the discussions, there has been a quote from Arthur Clarke saying that any new ideas pass through three periods:

  1. It can’t be done
  2. It probably can be done, but it’s not worth doing
  3. I knew it was a good idea all along

Based on what we saw on the workshop, it looks like the industry is finally entering stage 3, and uncertainty starts getting attention it deserves in the field development planning.

We owe many thanks to the program committee and presenters from operators and service companies for the great technical content.

Please find the workshop presentations slides here.
